Welcome to the spectacular finale of The Governess Bureau from USA Today Bestselling Author Emily E K Murdoch!

When the nobility and gentility of England are at their wits end, they send a discrete note to Miss Vivienne Clarke’s Governess Bureau. Only accepting the very best clients, their governesses are coveted by minor royalty, with every governess following three rules:
1. You must have an impeccable record.
2. You must bring a special skill to the table.
3. You must never fall in love…

Book 6, A Governess of Wise Years

When a governess has unusual experience, there is only one place she belongs: the Governess Bureau.

The Governess Bureau is about to close – but Miss Vivienne Clarke has one chance to redeem it, and herself.

Scandal. Intrigue. Love matches. The Governess Bureau was never supposed to be full of these things, but over the last few years, no fewer than five matches have been made.

It’s something the proprietress, Miss Vivienne Clarke, simply cannot allow to continue.

With only one client remaining for the previously esteemed Governess Bureau now it has been called into disrepute, Vivienne has no choice but to take on the assignment herself; Caring for the daughter of Edwin, Viscount Bysshe.
It would be so much easier if she had not turned down his offer of marriage fifteen years ago.

Edwin wouldn’t consider himself a man who carries a grudge, he just wants to prove to the world that Miss Clarke is incompetent and her whole Bureau idea is a scam. After all, she chose it over him all those years ago. Besides, he has secrets to hide about his daughter, and her mysterious origins.

All Vivienne wants to do is salvage her reputation, restore her business, and return to London with her heart intact.

She’s a governess of wise years, but is that enough to save herself from even more heartbreak?

This full length novel is a steamy Regency romance with a happily ever after, no cliffhangers, and is part of a series that can be read in any order.

Book 5, A Governess of Unusual Experience

When a governess has unusual experience, there is only one place she belongs: the Governess Bureau.

That’s the trouble when you wake up with no memories from the last ten years: what do you do? For Miss Rachel Herriot, she has only one option – to be sent to a quiet manor house with one charge, Violet, to care for. A little governessing and recuperation, that’s all she needs.

Unfortunately, that’s not what she’ll get. Waiting for her at Quintrell Hall is not the idyllic quiet country life she was promised, but a gentleman called Timothy Astor. Mysterious, frequently absent from his home, and kissing her passionately in corridors with no introduction, Mr. Astor is not what Rachel expected.

And that’s the trouble with losing one’s memory, isn’t it? As Timothy watches the woman he knew and loved attempt to recognize him, there’s nothing for him but to quietly pretend their clandestine love affair – and their completely illegal adventures in France never happened.

But the past is looming and about to collide with the future. As preparations for Miss Violet Quintrell’s entrance into Society are threatened by Timothy’s refusal to reveal Rachel’s own past, there’ll be more than one unusual experience for this governess…

New Year’s Goals!

Well, it’s officially 2022! My first full year that I will be a full time author, and so I am taking some seriously time to think about what my goals are for this year.

Usually I think of resolutions, and every year until now, I have. I have resolved to do things differently, or better; but they have been hopes. I haven’t really done much to make them a reality, because that was all they were. Hopes.

This year however, I’m not going to create resolutions. I’m going to create goals: things that I am working towards, actively planning to achieve.

And that’s frightening!

It’s much easier to have hopes and dreams, because you never get measured against them. I had a dream to be an author as a job for pretty much my entire life, but it was only when I made it a goal and started making serious plans to get there that it happened.

So here we go: here are my three goals for 2022. I’ll revisit them at the end of the year, to see how I got on!

  1. From August onwards, have a book published every other month. It’s a big goal, but now I am a full time author, I should have the time.
  2. Plan and launch a super secret pen name! I have so many ideas and I am so excited to get them out there in the world.
  3. I will get my newsletter up to 10,000 readers who love my books. It means so much to me to know that people are out there reading and loving my books, and I want to collect them together!

So there are my goals: let’s see how I do!

Happy New Year!

If you are reading this, I am recovering from a pretty epic New Year 😅 for the first time in six years, I am able to host a New Year’s gathering, so I’m writing this just before everyone arrives because I don’t think I’ll be in much of a state to think tomorrow!

New Year’s are all about new beginnings, and I’ll write a new post for next week about my goals for 2022.

But in the meantime: look after yourselves, keep safe, and have a wonderful New Year!

What’s so sweet about mince pies?

Now that we’re in the full Christmas season, I am doing what I do best: eating all the mince pies. But after seeing a Facebook post from an Australian author friend of mine, I realised that there are quite a few misconceptions about one of my favourite treats.

So: why are mince pies called mince pies, when they don’t have any meat in them?

‘Mince’ is the action to cut something into loads of tiny pieces, hence minced beef, minced meat.

What we now call mince pies were actually ‘sweetmeat’ pies. Sweetmeat is a medieval term for stewed fruits. So minced sweetmeat pies became minced sweet pies became mince pies.…which is why people can sometimes get confused now.

We associate ‘mince’ with meat, when it’s just the cutting process.

So now when you dive into some mince pies, you can entertain the whole room with your medieval knowledge!

The famed and celebrated actress is a little down on her luck, and grasps the chance to masquerade as a governess until better luck comes around. Worse luck for her, she’s stuck out in the country with a master who is afraid to leave his house with a wife who died but no one will speak of, his sister who mysteriously disappears whenever anyone wants her, and a brother who…A brother who absolutely should not be kissing her. Especially as he’s a duke.

Oscar Fernsby, Duke of Kilerth, only planned to visit his brother for a few weeks. Prove the man was fine, then return to London to continue his anonymous bare knuckle boxing fights. Until a woman he thinks he recognizes but cannot place turns up at his brother’s house, blackmails him into silence, and distracts him with her beauty and strange skills.

Get those Christmas presents ready!

I know, I know – it’s a little early to be thinking about Christmas presents, but it’s always good to be ahead of the game!

It would be typical for an author like me to try to flog my books, and you know what, if you treated yourself and some loved ones to some of my books, great!

But I always want to recommend some books that I’ll be treating myself (sorry, my family and friends) to this Christmas. I love supporting my author friends, and if you have read all my books and want some more historical romance in your life, these are the authors I recommend!

Emmanuelle de Maupassant: my current favourite is The Lady’s Guide to Deception and Desire.

Merry Farmer: I’m reading Between His Lover and the Deep Blue Sea right now.

Sasha Cottman: you can never go wrong with her Christmas stories – try A Lady’s Heart Deceived.

Kathryn Le Veque: her Lasses and their Lovers medieval romance bundle is gorgeous!

Elise Marion: one of my faves – grab her Spinster Sister book.

I hope you find a new author to love this Christmas! (My books are here too 😅)

Remember, Remember…

…it’s Fifth of November!

Well, almost. I missed it by a day, sorry!

Here in England, the Fifth of November is a huge deal: a celebration in a way, but in other ways we have kind of forgotten why we do what we do.

Part of that is because it is so close to Halloween, it all gets merged into one fun autumnal festival. Many English towns will have Bonfire Night, delicious food, and fireworks around this weekend, but if you asked many people, they will probably believe one of three myths…

  1. Guy Fawkes was the guy (😅) behind the plot. Sorry, he was one of the least important guys in the Plot. His role was checking on the gunpowder, but he had no political power really.
  2. Guy Fawkes was burned to death, which is why we have bonfires. Nope! He was convicted and sentenced to be hung, drawn, and quartered, BUT he ‘accidentally’ fell from the scaffold and broke his neck.
  3. Americans don’t celebrate it because they are anti-monarchy. Wrong again! When British people emigrated to America, they took the celebration with them and called it ‘Pope Day’, but it fell out of favour after the Revolution.

Whether you celebrate the Fifth of November or not, I hope you have an awesome weekend! And if you decide to stay home, make sure to curl up with a book…
